1994 – Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA)
Ukraine and the EU sign the PCA, establishing the first formal framework for political and economic cooperation.
2004 – European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)
Ukraine becomes part of the ENP following the EU’s eastern enlargement, deepening regional cooperation.
2008 – Launch of EU–Ukraine Association Agreement negotiations
Formal talks begin on a long-term political and trade agreement.
2014 – Association Agreement signed and Euromaidan Revolution
After the Revolution of Dignity and the departure of President Yanukovych, Ukraine signs the political provisions of the EU Association Agreement in March and the economic part in June.
2016 – Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA)
The DCFTA, part of the Association Agreement, comes into provisional effect, opening markets and aligning Ukraine with EU trade standards.
2017 – Visa-Free Regime
The EU grants Ukrainian citizens visa-free travel to the Schengen Area for short stays — a major symbolic and practical achievement.
2019 – EU Membership as a Constitutional Goal
Ukraine amends its Constitution to enshrine EU and NATO membership as strategic objectives of the state.
2022 – Official Application for EU Membership
On February 28, 2022 — just days after Russia’s full-scale invasion — Ukraine formally applies to join the European Union.
June 2022 – EU Candidate Status Granted
The European Council grants Ukraine official candidate status, recognizing its progress and commitment to reforms.
2023 – Start of Pre-Accession Reforms
Ukraine implements key reforms in justice, anti-corruption, and media freedom as part of the EU’s “seven criteria” roadmap.
December 2023 – EU Leaders Approve Opening Accession Talks
The European Council agrees to open accession negotiations with Ukraine, marking a historic step toward membership.
2024–2025 – Screening and Alignment Process
Ukraine begins the screening of national legislation with the EU acquis, aligning its laws and standards in preparation for formal negotiations.

UkraineInvest will hold a dedicated investment workshop showcasing Ukraine’s current investment landscape and practical opportunities for Canadian businesses. The team will present a portfolio of investment-ready projects worth more than USD 11 billion across nine priority sectors — including CRM & green steel, transport and logistics, renewable energy, industry, construction materials, agro-processing, healthcare and dual-use technologies. During the workshop, UkraineInvest will provide sector insights, analytical materials and guidance on entering the Ukrainian market.
